European Honeymoon Outfits That Will Actually Fit in a Suitcase

It’s no secret that I recently got married.  Cue the confetti!  To celebrate my husband and I decided to embark on the honeymoon trip of a lifetime: a two week trip to Europe.  Now, this is no surprise, but I was naturally a wee bit worried about fitting all my clothes for the two weeks in a suitcase.  So, in this post, I’m sharing the European honeymoon outfits I packed.  And yes!  They did all fit in a suitcase.

Spoiler alert: I’ll be talking all about the honeymoon in an upcoming post, showcasing even more photos from our trip and ideas and tips for visiting.  If you’re not already a part of TCC Club, subscribe now, so you don’t miss out on upcoming posts and exclusive offers!

Shopping for European Honeymoon Outfits

I should start by saying that I’m not always the most financially responsible before leaving for a big trip.  It’s a vice alright.  Before a trip, especially one of seemingly large magnitude, I always feel the urge to buy a few new outfits.  And the honeymoon was no exception.

As you may know, I’m a huge fan of the online boutique, Pink Lily.  Never heard of them?  Find out why I’m a brand ambassador!

It goes without saying most of my outfits I purchased from Pink Lily.  Although admittedly, not all of them are Pink Lily.  I’ll share the full list of retailers I purchased from later in this article.  Nonetheless, Pink Lily does offer similar styles to all the outfits I’m about to showcase.

Without any further ado, check out my European honeymoon outfits I wore during my two week trip!

My European Honeymoon Outfits

What to Wear in Venice

Venice is consistently acclaimed one of the most romantic cities in the world.  But I also think Venice has a playful charm about it!  With the gondoliers and taxi motorboats whisking inches past each other while the drivers yell out jokes to each other in Italian, there’s really no other place like it in the world.

So, in terms of European honeymoon outfits to pack for Venice, think bright colors with a little (or a lot) of flair!

I chose an emerald green tank top with a lace trim paired with button-up denim shorts.  And yes, I purchased this style from Pink Lily.

What to Wear in Burano

No trip to Italy is complete without a visit to this colorful little island.  Known for it’s lace-work, Burano is home to many quaint shops and is a great day-trip from Venice.

For my Burano-inspired outfit, I chose a floral mini-dress with ruffles.  It’s feminine and fun, just like this charming little island!

What to Wear in San Gimignano

San Gimignano is steeped in history.  Located in Tuscany, this medieval town sports buildings dating back to the 12th century.

To honor this locale, I loved wearing neutral colors and oversized palazzo pants.

Unfortunately, we visited on a rainy day…so, a word for the wise: pack a raincoat no matter how fashionable you want to look!  Thank you to my husband for letting me borrow his!

What to Wear in Montepulciano

Montepulciano is another medieval town in the Tuscany region dating back centuries.  Not to mention, it’s a huge producer of wine!

This neutral-toned maxi dress (or one just like it, since it’s a Pink Lily oldie but goodie) is a great piece to include in your European honeymoon outfits and is perfect for touring wineries, medieval dungeons, or just roaming the cobblestone streets.

What to Wear in Pisa

Pisa is of course known for it’s leaning tower.  And for such a classic sight, what better than a little white dress?

And what’s great about this is if you’re packing European honeymoon outfits, chances are you have a plethora of little white dresses on standby following all your bridal events. Save some money and rewear one of your favorites.

I chose a cutesy white lace minidress!  And yes, I know it doesn’t AT ALL look like I’m holding the tower up in the photo (that’s what makes it funny!).

What to Wear in Lucca

Lucca, Italy was one of my husband and I’s favorite places we discovered on our honeymoon.

Lucca is known for it’s walls.  It’s walls surround the city center and were built thousands of years ago to protect Lucca from unwelcome intruders.  Today, you can climb the city walls and enjoy the park that sits on top of them.  Lucca is also home to a piazza built around a traditional Roman amphitheater, which is where I’m posing for this photo.

For my Lucca outfit selection, I chose a midi dress with a white and purple floral pattern.  A midi dress turned out to be a great choice for Lucca; it provided sun protection, and it wasn’t so long that I was tripping over fabric (like a maxi dress), but it kept me respectfully covered, so that I could explore churches in the area.

What to Wear in Naples

In all honesty, my husband and I didn’t see much of Naples!  BUT it’s on our list of places to return to.

If you do visit Naples, make sure to try the pizza!  We made the mistake of not doing so and were sorely disappointed to hear from others (after the fact) just how delicious the food was!

Instead, of exploring the city center and pigging out on pizza, we went to the ancient ruins of Herculaneum.  More on that to come…

Of course, I wouldn’t dare omit a two-piece set from my essential European honeymoon outfits packing list!  For Naples and surrounding area, I chose a t-shirt and a mini skort.  As you may know, I’m a huge fan of two-piece sets because you can mix and match to create multiple outfits from just a few pieces.

I especially love them for travel though!  With a few basic top colors (black, white, and navy), you can create multiple different looks.  Swap them and rewear them throughout the trip for easy, effortless chic outfits.

What to Wear in Ephesus

The next stop on our European honeymoon trip was Ephesus, Turkey.

Minus the tour-provided radio, I was stylin’.  I wore a white linen shirt with lace cap-sleeves and a blue floral maxi skirt.

This lightweight – but also, conservative – garb was perfect for beating the heat while still remaining respectful in Islamic country.  Plus, the bright blue color of my skirt popped in photos against the backdrop of the older buildings and ancient ruins we saw.

What to Wear in Santorini

Admittedly, Santorini was not my favorite place we visited.  To be fair, my husband and I may not have seen much of it because we didn’t make it over there until mid-day, until after it was already swarming with other tourists.  And I had built it up in my head based on photos I’d seen online.

Regardless, the view of the Ocean from the Santorini cliffside is stunning and there’s lot of shops and restaurants to explore.

For my outfit, I chose a neutral-toned, pleated midi dress.  This outfit made me feel pretty and polished.  Not to mention, this was a great outfit for keeping the sun off my legs.

What to Wear in Mykonos

Mykonos was hands-down my favorite place we visited in Greece!

It’s a fun little island that’s surprisingly quiet in the morning before it becomes overrun by tourists.  We had a great time checking out the quaint streets, the unique artisan shops, and the local cuisine.

For my outfit I chose a crop top with a fun print and a pair of acid-washed denim shorts.

What to Wear in Athens

My husband and I’s two week long European honeymoon concluded with a visit to Athens, Greece.

During our last day we made the long (and I mean LONG) trek up to see the Acropolis, which is where this photo was taken:

Honestly, at this point in the trip I was running a little low on outfits…so, I pulled out what I had left: a comfortable t-shirt and skort outfit.  I love this style because it’s effortless, comfortable, and it still makes you look and feel put together.

Tips for Packing All Your Favorite European Honeymoon Outfits

Keep Bulky Maxi Dresses to a Minimum

Maxi dresses are great in the summer.  BUT, they take up lots of room in a suitcase.  Keep maxi dresses and other bulky outfits to a minimum and diversify your outfits with knee-length dresses, mini skirts, and shorts.

Roll Your Clothes

Rolling clothes prior to packing them in a suitcase is a trick I discovered online several years ago.  Today, I swear by it!  Not only does it save room, but it also helps keep clothes wrinkle-free.

Pack Shoes to Match a Variety of Outfits

I love my shoe collection as much as the next girl!  But when you’re traveling, it’s worth making a conscious effort to pack less shoes.  A LOT LESS.

Shoes take up a lot of room in a suitcase and add a lot of extra weight.  So, consider packing only a few different pairs.

If you’re packing only a few pairs of shoes, you’ll want shoes that match a variety of outfits.  Think neutral colors and styles!  Nothing too loud or unique that will only match 1 specific outfit.

You may notice from my photos, the shoes I packed were brown, tan, white, and black in color and could be worn with a variety of different styles.

Mix & Match Tops and Bottoms and REWEAR

If the weather isn’t too hot (translation: you’re not a sweaty mess), consider packing tops and bottoms that are interchangeable with one another and rewear pieces.

This saves room in your suitcase, reduces the amount of laundry you come home with, and makes it look like you packed all separate outfits for photo ops.  It’s a win-win!

Don't be Afraid to Fill Your Suitcase

When I first started packing for my honeymoon, I wanted to leave plenty of space in the suitcase for souvenirs.  That quickly went out the window!

Instead, I filled my suitcase to capacity.  And I’m so glad I did!  I was easily able to fit all my outfits needed for my two week trip to Europe.  Had I not done so, I may have needed to spend significant time and money to do laundry abroad.  Yuck!  The last thing you want to think about, while on vacation is doing household chores, like laundry.

Instead, my husband and I bought a small, cheap carry-on suitcase in Athens at the tail end of our trip and fit all our souvenirs in there.  Not to mention, we’ve already reused the carry-on on some of other trips, since returning from our honeymoon.
